Simple and Easy way to get your horse to pick you up from the mounting block!

Teaching your horse to come to the mounting block can be easy when you keep it simple for you and your horse. Before we ask our horses to come to the mounting block we must have them respectful of our space in the ground. We start by teaching our horses to come over to us on the ground. We use a series of cues to be able to help them learn what we are asking.

1. Lift left hand

2. Lift right hand with whip

3. Kiss

4. Tap if needed with your whip on the top of the hip. Release all pressure when your horse steps their hip towards you.

After your horse understands the exercise next to the wall move away from the wall and make sure they understand the cue. Once they understand the cue away from the wall you can ask next to the mounting block, then with you on the mounting block. Then it's time to get creative and ask them to come pick you up from anywhere. A picnic table, a tree stump, a fence, a hay wagon,.....
