Building Confidence on the Trail: Genie & Brent’s Clinic Experience

One of the things we love most about hosting clinics is hearing how much of an impact they make on our riders and their horses. Recently, Genie and Brent Langhals attended our Trail Obstacles Clinic with their horses Ariel and Odin, and they were kind enough to share their experience.

Here’s what they had to say:

“My husband and I had the pleasure of attending the Chambers Horsemanship Trail Obstacles Clinic this past weekend, and it exceeded all of our expectations! As someone who loves trail riding but often struggles with my own confidence and focus on various obstacles, I was excited to see what the clinic could offer.

The clinic was held at Double J Bar S Quarter Horses in Winchester, Ohio. The venue was perfect for setting up a wide variety of trail obstacles. We spent the first part of the clinic learning how to approach each obstacle with a calm and controlled mindset and how to set up your horse for the obstacle. The trainers Dawn, Dan, and Kim really emphasized the importance of trust and communication between the rider and horse. I loved how they broke down each obstacle, teaching us the correct positioning, timing, and body language to help our horses stay calm and confident. The groundwork before tackling the obstacles on horseback is the key and it really helped our horses understand what was being asked before we mounted up.

The clinic was incredibly hands-on, and Dawn, Dan, and Kim made sure to give each participant personal feedback, which we really appreciated! My husband has a “newer to him” riding partner and this experience really gave him specific tasks and goals to work on with his mustang to make their bond even stronger.

One of the most valuable lessons we took away was learning how to read our horse’s body language to understand when they were feeling nervous or unsure. This allowed us to help our horses work through their uncertainty and the specific task without pushing too hard. It was a huge confidence booster for both my husband and I as well as our horses.

The atmosphere at the clinic was relaxed but focused, and the group size was small enough to ensure everyone received individualized attention. Dawn and her team of amazing trainers created a very supportive environment, and it felt like everyone was there to learn and grow together.

If you're looking to improve your trail riding skills, general horsemanship, navigate obstacles with more confidence, or discover something new, like cattle work – I highly recommend this clinic and the trainers at Chambers Horsemanship!

My husband and I left feeling more connected with our horses and equipped with the skills to confidently tackle any trail obstacle we come across in the show ring, out on the trail, or on the ranch. My husband and I will definitely be back for future clinics!”
