March always feels like a turning point around here.
Colt starting season is officially underway, and the barn is full of fresh minds learning new things. First saddles. First rides. First moments where you can see a young horse think through something and choose the right answer. That never gets old.
This time of year is where everything begins. When the foundation is solid, everything else builds correctly on top of it.
At the same time, we’re finishing several horses and getting them ready for show season. Dialing in body control, refining transitions, building cadence, and making sure we’re truly connecting the reins to their feet. Refinement only works when it’s layered on top of good basics, and that’s where our focus has been.
There’s a lot of forward momentum happening here.
I’m especially excited about this month’s webinar.
We’re talking about something that can truly shape your entire experience as a horse owner, sending your horse into training.
In this session, I’ll walk through what I would personally look for if I were sending my own horse into a program. We’ll cover:
The right questions to ask
How to evaluate different training styles
And how to recognize potential red flags before making a commitment
Choosing the right training program matters for your horse’s confidence and for your peace of mind. My goal is to help you feel informed and equipped before making that decision.
Inside the Circle, our monthly challenge is focused on hip control.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in your stops, struggled with clean lead departures, or wished your horse would step underneath themselves with more intention, this is where that improvement begins.
Sometimes when riders feel uninspired or stalled out, it’s not motivation that’s missing, it’s direction.
Each month inside the Circle, we focus on one specific concept and build real progress around it. It’s structured. It’s intentional. And it keeps you moving forward.
Barn Talk is also coming up on March 10th and those conversations are always full of insight, shared experiences, and accountability.
If you’re not inside yet, you’re missing the momentum we’re building together.
We still have a few spots left for our Ranch Riding Clinic.
This day will focus heavily on transitions, body positioning, cadence, and improving your ranch riding scores. We’ll break down how to create smoother upward and downward transitions and refine the small details judges are watching for in the pen.
If you’re serious about elevating your performance and building a strong foundation underneath it, this clinic is designed to give you practical, usable tools.
We have just two openings left for our Spring Ranch Retreat here at the ranch.
This is multiple days of focused, personalized help in a small group setting. When you get to work several days in a row, you’re able to move past surface-level adjustments and create real, lasting change.
There’s something powerful about stepping away from distractions and immersing yourself in your horsemanship for a few days.
If that’s been on your heart, this is your opportunity.
We donated a Ranch Riding Clinic rider or auditor spot to the Young Guns 4-H Drill Team silent auction in Burlington, KY on March 7th.
We believe strongly in supporting youth who are serious about learning and growing in this industry. If you’re local and able to attend their auction, we’d encourage you to go support them.
If you’ve been wanting to attend a ranch riding clinic and help a great organization at the same time, this is a win-win.
As always, I’m grateful to have you following along.
There’s a lot happening at the ranch and a lot of opportunity to move forward in your horsemanship.
Let’s keep building that foundation.
