What's Happening at the Ranch in May
This month is kicking off in the best possible way.
As this goes out, we are right in the middle of our Spring Ranch Retreat here at the ranch (April 30th through May 2nd) and it has been everything we hoped for and more. There is something special about slowing down, getting immersed, and really focusing on what matters. That's exactly what this retreat is all about: goals, forward movement, and getting people truly invested in the process.
Starting the month like this sets the tone for everything ahead.
We are still deep in colt starting season and loving every minute of it. Watching young horses find their feet and begin to understand their job never gets old.
Chisholm and Roan Ranger — our two two-year-olds are both under saddle and moving along beautifully. These guys are proving exactly what we already believed about their bloodlines. They are living up to every expectation, and it is exciting to watch that potential come to life each ride.
Ebony has been an absolute standout this month. She is deep in her finishing work and just keeps exceeding expectations. We have been getting her out on cattle, and this little mare has shown us she is a true all-around horse from the ranch riding pen all the way over to the cattle work. She would absolutely shine in the sorting pen. She just keeps showing us more.
Doc has had a big month, we started him on cattle for the first time, and he handled it like the good-minded horse we always knew he was. He is coming of age and coming around easy. We are excited to keep watching him grow.
We also added a new face to the ranch. Duffy is a gorgeous grullo APHA gelding with a great mind and a whole lot of personality. He came to us because of his mindset, and he has not disappointed. This guy loves to work, loves to be engaged, and is taking everything in stride. We are excited to see where he goes.
And our yearlings, they are out being horses, growing up, and looking great. Big things ahead for that group.
All of these horses are available if one of them is calling your name.
Something that has been on my mind heading into this month:
You can't move forward without knowing where you're going.
Goals are not just something you write down and forget. They are the thing that gives every ride, every training session, and every decision a purpose. When you are clear on the destination, the work takes on a whole new meaning for you and for your horse.
That is what we are pouring into this retreat, and it is what we are carrying forward through the rest of May.
This one is going to be a straight-shooting conversation with Dan, who is passionate about colt starting. We are going to pull back the curtain on what a colt start actually looks like: the 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day picture, what to expect, and what really matters through that process.
If you have ever been curious about what goes into starting a young horse the right way, you will want to be on this call. Dan will tell it to you straight, just like he always does.
Our Circle members' Barn Talk is always one of my favorite nights of the month. The conversations that come out of these calls are real, honest, and genuinely inspiring. We push each other forward in the best way.
If you are not yet inside the Circle, this is the kind of community you are missing.
Hosted at Michelle's place, this clinic is going to be a full day of pattern work, refining your runs, and getting in-the-moment feedback that actually moves you forward. We are going to dig into ranch riding patterns, sharpen your horsemanship, and help you understand what it takes to really ride with intention.
We do have a couple of spots left. If you want to take what you are learning and put it to work in real time, this is where that happens.
Our monthly challenge went out on the first alongside this update, designed to keep our Ranch Circle members focused, inspired, and building real momentum. Each month we zero in on one key thing so you are making meaningful progress instead of guessing at what to work on next.
If you have been feeling scattered or stuck, this is where that changes.
There is a lot of good happening around here, and May is shaping up to be a strong month.
Let's keep building.
