Have You Ever Thought,

“I Know You Know This”?

You ask your horse for something you've worked on before...

And suddenly they're stiff. Their feet feel stuck. You need more pressure than you did yesterday. Or something that felt great during your last ride doesn't feel so great today.

It can leave you wondering:

Does my horse actually understand this?

Just because a horse has done something a few times doesn't mean they really understand it yet.

There's a difference between a horse learning what you're asking, a horse that understands but still needs refinement, and a horse that really knows the maneuver and can respond consistently when you ask.

Knowing where your horse is in that process can help you decide what to expect, what to reward, when to keep working on something and when it's time to move forward.

3 Stages of Learning

CONCEPT

Do they understand what I'm asking?

This is where we're looking for the try and helping the horse connect our cue with the response we're asking for.

REFINEMENT

How do we make the response better?

This is where repetition, patience and purposeful exercises begin creating lighter cues, less resistance and better responsiveness.

FINISHED

Can I confidently depend on the response?

The horse understands the maneuver well enough that you can confidently ask for it and expect a consistent response.

Here's What We'll Talk About

  • Recognizing resistance vs. understanding
What stiffness, stuck feet and heavier cues may be telling you.

  • Repetition without drilling
How to get the repetitions your horse needs without asking for the same thing over and over.

  • Finding the piece that's stuck
Why the problem with a maneuver may actually be a shoulder, hip, rib cage or another piece that needs more work.

  • Giving the maneuver a purpose
How gates, logs, cattle and everyday situations can help make what you're asking more meaningful to your horse.

  • Knowing when to reward
How recognizing and rewarding small improvements can help your horse understand they're headed in the right direction.

  • Knowing when to leave it alone
Why sometimes walking away or even getting off can be one of the best rewards you give your horse.

Bring One Thing You're Working On With Your Horse

Come to the webinar with one maneuver or skill you're currently working on.

Maybe it's a sidepass, a stop, moving the shoulders, picking up the lope, working a gate.

Whatever you're working on, I want you thinking about one question:

Is my horse learning the concept, refining the response, or can I confidently depend on the response?

By the end of the webinar, I want you to have a better idea of what your horse needs from you next.
